Birthday Fun Print
We kicked off Lee's birthday week with a joint dinner celebration for both he and Erika on Sunday night. Our shared friends that we don't see enough of came over for the evening and it was really great.  Lee tried three new marinades for three different tri-tips and grilled them perfectly. We also had Erika's favorite carrot cake and Lee's birthday request of Brookies.  It was delicious! We're still months and months away of having our "great room" completed - but we loved that it was where everyone still wanted to hang out.  Our vision of having that space be a great hang out space might just happen!

The New Pizza Peel and Baking StoneLee's actual birthday was Wednesday, May 16.  I surprised him with a new camera lens that he is really excited about (and now that I've seen what it can do, I'm really excited too!) We met on campus for lunch and then had an early-bird dinner so we could see the Hunger Games before it leaves the theaters.  The day ended with more brookies and opening of the gifts from my sisters.  They spoiled him and it turns out that I conveniently get to benefit from them all!  Lee is now the owner of new ice cream books from two of San Francisco's ice cream shops and fabulous pizza making tools!  We even tested them out tonight and loved the results!

Happy Birthday Lee! Print

Every day I thank my lucky stars for having found Lee.  He is the best of everything.  And anyone who knows him, knows he is one of the kindest, most thoughtful, most generous and loving people on this planet.  He's also got serious skills and abilities - he can do ANYTHING!  He's my handyman engineer, he's my (and our families) personal IT support, he's my partner in the kitchen, our photographer and the list goes on.  I'll stop now before I embarrass him anymore than I probably already have.   But, he's my rock, my best friend and the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Milano Print

After my extraordinary week at the Skoll World Forum (I will eventually catch up and blog about that too), Lee met me at the London, Heathrow airport. We spent most of Saturday there, waiting for our flight to Milano.  We (and our bags) arrived into Linate around 8:30pm and from there we took a bus to downtown Milano.  We scored with our hotel.  We stayed at the Hotel Brunelleschi, which was no more than a five minute walk to the Duomo.  Since we had very limited time in Milano, it was the perfect location for us.  We checked in and then left again to get something to eat and see the Duomo by night.

Venezia Print

I knew when we booked our trip to Italy that there would be a strong likelihood of rain, it was spring after all.  But, I had hoped for a few days of sun so Lee could experience the best of a few places.  One of the sunny days I had hoped for was one in Venice (it's a different place in the sunshine) - and we got it.  Our first night and full day there were gorgeous! We arrived by train and took a vaporetto down the Grand Canal to our B&B which was just a 5 minute walk from the Piazza di San Marco.  We stayed at 3C.  It is in the Castello district, run by the nicest people who make a mean hot chocolate, a great breakfast, and even leave out snacks in the afternoon and evening.  Our room was also terrific - a great find!

Garden Efforts Print
The JungleThe last two Saturdays have been absolutely gorgeous and we have spent both of them outside in our yard.  When we returned from Italy the grass in our yard looked like a jungle and the wheat grass went to my knees.  Our first Saturday back (4/21) I spent ALL morning mowing the lawn.  Never have I had to work so hard!  The mower wouldn't start unless it was tipped backwards and every 3 feet I had to stop, lift up the mower and let it spit out all the grass.  If I didn't, it powered off.  It took forever!  We had lots of weeding, trimming, edging, mowing just to catch up with the yard maintenance basics.  But then, in the afternoon we went shopping for our garden seeds, starters and materials to build another garden bed.
