Family Fun

Mission San Jose My super cool cousin, Vanessa, is the head volleyball coach at Washington University in St. Louis. She recently was recruited to coach/scout at a volleyball camp here in Santa Clara the first weekend in June. With us being in the area and Joy just up the road, she decided to extend her trip to get in some cousin time. At the last minute, her mom decided she just couldn't handle missing out on the fun and she flew in too!

My aunt arrived late on Friday night and we spent nearly all of Saturday getting some quality time with her before Vanessa's camp ended at 4pm. We enjoyed a lovely morning in our backyard and then did a little sight seeing in Fremont. Taf has always had an interest in the California missions and so we took her down to Mission San Jose - a first for all three of us. Pidgeon Point We then attempted to visit the historical Patterson House in Ardenwood Farms but we had just missed the tour! Instead we ate our picnic lunch at the farm and chatted. It was a really nice and relaxing day.

At 4pm we picked up V from City Beach in Santa Clara and decided to put on a few miles. They wanted to drive the California coast and we decided some of the best stretch was between Santa Cruz and Pescadero. So down we drove to Santa Cruz where we hopped out of the long only for ice cream and then got back in to drive up Highway 1. We got out at Pidgeon Point and walked around and arrived in Pescadero just in time for our dinner reservations at Duartes. We then took the long way home, stopping in Palo Alto for a quick, moonlit tour of Stanford Campus.

The Whole Fam Damily Sunday was originally planned to be low-key, with church in the morning and then dinner with Joy and Collin in the city. But, as it turned out, Abbie, Patrick and their kids flew into Oakland at lunch time and decided they were up for a group lunch in Oakland before they headed north to Mendicino. So we loaded up and fought the traffic of the unexpected street fair and met up with the Archies for Burma Superstar.  It was a big hit all around!  A couple hours later we said goodbye to the Archies and drove over to the city to hang with the Whiteheads.

Our evening revolved around conversation, dinner, birthday celebrations and baby Cal. It was terrific! We really had a fun day and loved how the stars aligned such that we got to see everyone! We love family! Pictures from that quick weekend are here.
