We woke up tired and cold from the long, wet night.  The wind had roared ALL night.  Shaking even our super sturdy tent.  We had a hot breakfast and hit the road.  As we hiked out we got our 2nd rainbow in as many mornings.  It was beautiful with lightly snow dusted mountains behind it and one end ending in Lake Pehoe.  That morning we had our best views of Pehoe.

Our original plan was to hikt to Campamento Italiano, just 2.5 hours down the way, make camp and day hike 12 km (round trip) up the Valley Frances.  The views are supposed to be superb, but we wouldn´t know.  The clouds were thick , rain was turning to sleep up high and it was COLD!

We crossed the scariest bridge EVER to get to camp. Italiano.  It was rickety and there were signs saying no more than 2 persons at a time on the bridge.  Add the gusts of wind to the already swaying bridge and you could lose your life.  Katie crossed that thing as quickly as she could.  It was so cold at Italiano that we ate quickly and decided to push on another 6km to Cuernos.

The trail to Cuernos was a bit more exposed, crossed a number of small streams and gave us our first views of Lake Nordenskoljd.  The last 20 minutes or so the trail became lake shore and it was a pleasant change - even with the nasty weather.  We quickly found a dry camp spot nestled in the trees and then took advantage of the heated refugio for an hour or two.  Rain was light-minimal that night.  But the wind wasn´t and it helpd dry everything out.  We think (based on weather forecasts) that the wind averaged 60 - 80 kmph with even stronger wind gusts.  We were grateful to not be at unsheltered Pehoe that night.
