Week 3 - February 28 - March 6

We've been in our house a full week now and we haven't gotten any closer to feeling settled!  We are slowly trying to organize a few boxes to make the next few months survivable.  We found ourselves slowing down a bit out of sheer exhaustion from prepping for and completing the move.  But we've still been pretty darn busy.

Accomplishments Our First Dinner Guests

  • Vacuumed up the inch + dust throughout the house and washed the floors (for the first of what will be many times I'm sure)
  • Lined the linen closet shelves so we don't have to walk quite as far for some of our clothes
  • Had our first dinner guests!  We're getting to be quite the regulars at Papa Johns -- only this time we had guests! Next time we feed them hopefully they won't have to work for their food. :)
  • Converted the kitchen into something functional for the next few months (Thank You Reams for doing this Our Oven Installers! for/with us!)
    • Demolished the non-functioning range and counter top
    • Installed our new oven (Again - we LOVE searsoutlet.com.  We can thank them for the coolest oven ever  AND our dryer)
    • Scrubbed the kitchen, lined kitchen cabinets and unpacked the essential kitchen items!
  • Patched the 18" x 24" hole in the ceiling from the beehive we discovered when removing the popcorn in the living room.
  • Spackled and sanded the walls of the living room in efforts to kick off painting!
  • Had a very unpleasant surprise when we removed the trim in the living room and discovered we have moisture issues.  Thankfully we don't have mold - but we do have to replace a significant amount of drywall on the exterior walls of the living room.  We now have gaping holes in our living room wall in efforts to dry out the insulation.  The living room was supposed to be our "quick fix" - so much for that!
  • Identified (hopefully) the source of the moisture issues.  Our lovely stucko walls have hairline cracks which, when exposed to direct rain are allowing the water to seep into the house.  Lee spent most of Saturday sealing the cracks.  We definitely have lost some of the curb appeal with those efforts - but at least our walls will stay dry! Our Make-Shift Living Room
  • Organized the family room so that we have a place to watch TV and even a mini-office.  (Lee surprised me with this feat and it made my night! He's the best.)
  • Set up the TV antenna so we can get HD television for FREE!  And because I'm married to a techno-whiz, this also means we can record TV directly to the computer.  Not sure when we'll have time to watch it - but it's all set to go!
  • Hooked up our washer and dryer.  This was actually a fair amount of work.  Lee spent a great deal of time engineering new ducting to extend from the dryer through the crawlspace and out the back of th house.  But we now have experienced three "quarter-free" loads of laundry - which we can do at any time of day!  It is SO liberating!!!! It's definitely the highlight of the week!
