A President's Day Weekend Miracle!

A Real Bed - FINALLY! Last year over President's Day weekend we were kicking it on the beach in Kauai.  This year, although not as beautiful made me nearly just as happy!  The first reason, is that the first time in months - Lee didn't work nearly as hard for Stanford as he did for us.  He still had one very late night, but he didn't work Saturday or Sunday!  The second reason is that we are making serious progress in the Master Bedroom!  Our first night in the house was February 27, 2010 and tonight (February 23, 2011) we get to sleep in the Master for the first time!!!!  No more mattresses on the floor!!!!!

The Master still isn't quite complete (overhead lights don't work yet and the door jams to the pocket doors need to be installed and framed), but otherwise - it's good to go!  We did A LOT of work this weekend to get it to this point!  We managed to replace the outlets and switches, install the curtain rods, iron and hang the curtains, install 200 square feet of wood floor and install the baseboard trim!  We're really pleased with the progress and I'm almost giddy with excitement of sleeping in a real bed and getting dressed from one room instead of three!   Our closet isn't all that far behind either.  We have about half of the closet floor to nail down, trim to install and overhead lights to connect - but then we'll be done with that too!

So what all did the Master entail?

  • Scraped the acoustic ceiling
  • Sanded and spackled the ceiling
  • Textured the ceiling
  • Primed and painted the ceiling
  • Installed canned LED lights (nearly complete)
  • TSPd and washed the walls
  • Sanded and spackled the walls
  • Primed and painted the walls
  • Installed curtain rods
  • Tore up old hardwood floor (thanks to two teenage boys from church!)
  • Installed hardwood
  • Painted and repaired sliding door trim
  • Replaced the outlets
  • Painted and installed baseboard trim

We'll hold off on the laundry list for the adjoining closet and bathroom separate until they are operational!  But, this weekend brought us closer to both goals.  The shower door was installed and Lee installed the linen cabinet!
