The 100th Rose Bowl

At the Stadium Last week we went to the Rose Bowl!  Although the game outcome was a bit disappointing, the 48 hours we were in Pasadena were a lot of fun!  Since we are season ticket holders we had the right to purchase four tickets and so my parents came with us.  Not only did they come with us, but they treated us to the game and so much more!  The four of us flew into Burbank within minutes of each other and then we were off.   We stayed in Rosemead where we had a rousing New Year's Eve dinner at CPK, a trip to the grocery store and a game of Mexican train dominoes before turning in before midnight.  We were still pretty sick last week and needed what little rest we could get before our big day at the Rose Bowl!

Expecting the worst, traffic wise, we got off to an early start.  The Rose Bowl Parade We left our hotel at 7:30am and were pleasantly surprised by quiet freeways and roads and were parked (in a decent spot I might add) at the stadium within 45 minutes.  We got our special edition Rose Bowl lanyards for our tickets, snapped a few photos and then walked into town to catch some of the parade.  We were again, pleasantly surprised, to be able to get a decent spot and watched nearly half of the parade.  None of us are big parade people, but those floats were pretty impressive.  I'm really glad we pulled it off!

Us at the Rose Bowl The weather on January 1 was incredible and we loved the time we spent outside - my parents especially.  A big change from the sub-zero temperature they had had just a few days prior...  We made it back to the car and the stadium in ample time and were in our seats for all the pre-game festivities at 1:30pm.  We expected a big to-do with it being the 100th Rose Bowl, but they unfortunately didn't do anything at all.  Our seats were decent enough and we really enjoyed being at the game.  We were pretty disappointed with the result (Lee took it especially hard), but it was still a super fun experience.

We were pleased, yet again, to navigate our way out of the parking lot in pretty short order and even made it to 7pm dinner reservations.   We enjoyed a meal out before heading back to the hotel for more conversation and doms.   Thursday morning we enjoyed going slow before catching our early afternoon flights out.

We had such a great 48 hours with my parents and I'm so glad we got to have the experience of the Rose Bowl!  We had a really wonderful time!  What a great way to kick of 2014!  I hope we get the chance to go cheer on Stanford at the Rose Bowl again!

Pictures of our trip are here.
