With Wind Exhibit Last weekend we joined the throngs of San Francisco tourists and had a great time.  Our first stop was Pier 33 where we caught the ferry out to Alcatraz.  Lee and I had both lived in California long enough that by the time we met, we had already done all the touristy things.  So this was our first time to Alcatraz together - and it had been at least 10 years for both of us since our last visits.   The reason for our visit was to see the Ai WeiWei exhibit which leaves at the end of April.  The exhibit was impressive and left me feeling very grateful for my freedoms. The exhibit was designed specifically for Alcatraz and the art was displayed in places not typically included in the standard Alcatraz tour.  The first part of the exhibit was a beautiful, intricate, paper dragon hung from the ceiling with inspiring words and quotes.  Beyond the dragon was a room full of faces made with Legos - all depicting faces of men and women who are currently and have been political prisoners.   Then, within the cell house they incorporated Ai WeiWei's art into the cell blocks, hospital and dining hall.    

The day we were out there was beautiful with warm and sunny skies.  We couldn't have asked for a better day.

We were really fortunate, that the same day we were up at Alcatraz, Merrilee and Grace were in town visiting from Utah! They got off their ferry shortly after we wrapped up at Alcatraz and enjoyed taking Grace around to see some of the sights in SF.  Our first stop was Smitten by way of Alamo Square.  It was our first trip to Smitten and we will be back! We then took Grace to Baker Beach, just in time to watch the sunset.  I absolutely love Merrilee and it was such a treat to have her and her wonderful daughter in town.
