Labor Day in Idaho

At the Race Track Last Christmas we decided Labor Day should be spent camping with Lee's family in Glacier National Park.  Those plans unraveled as the summer progressed.... Bryce and Elaine moved from Montana to Wyoming, Zach and Rochelle faced injuries and a dead car, and Connor got into racing and finished his Eagle Scout project.  All of these developments resulted in a change of plans for Labor day.  And although Lee and I REALLY want to get to Glacier -- the weekend in Bruneau was a lot of fun.  We're so glad we made the trip!

Lee and I braved holiday traffic and headed out Friday afternoon to drive the 700+ miles to his house in Southwest Idaho.  We were pretty fortunate that the traffic was as light as it was - but even still, we didn't roll up to the house until 3:30AM Boise time.  Thank goodness for Harry Potter getting us there.

The highlight for Saturday was the trip over to Firebird Connor Smoking out the Booth (outside of Emmett) where we all watched Connor race his 1996 Doge Ram Extended Cab Pickup in the Street Legal Drag Races.  It was my first ever exposure to drag racing and it was a lot of fun.  I think the best part about it all is that Connor arrives at the races in his pickup, races his pickup, beats most people in his class and then drives his pickup home.  He's not one of those guys who hauls his fancy-pants race car there and drives something else home.  But he beats those guys.  It's pretty fun to see.  He also smokes them all out at the starting line...

Sunday was pretty low-key until that evening when we got to go to Connor's Court of Honor for his Eagle Scout award.  Not having any boy scouts in my family, this was another new experience for me.  We're glad we were able to be there for it.   The Eagle award is quite an accomplishment.

Connor Winning - Again! We had to leave all too quickly on Monday to make it back in time for work on Tuesday.  We're so glad we made the trip.  We really enjoyed seeing everyone.  It's the first time we all have been under the same roof since the wedding festivities last year (which really didn't leave a lot of time for hanging out).  We loved seeing the nieces and nephew -- and got a kick out of being called "Uncle Katie" once or twice.  We also got spoiled rotten by both sets of grandparents and Lee's mom -- they nearly filled our trunk with homemade freezer jam and bottled peaches, apricots, pears, applesauce and grapejuice.  YUM!!!

Lee too lots of pictures at the track - but we haven't stopped long enough to hardly look at them.  We'll post them soon!

OK - They are now posted!!!  Check them out here.
