Thanksgiving with my family is something I look forward to all year long! This year it was in Logan, Utah at my Aunt's house. We had big plans to spend Thursday and Friday in Logan and then drive to Bruneau to spend time with the Merricks for the rest of the weekend. Unfortunately, the weather forced us to stay put in Logan. Of course we made the best of it and got to participate in a few more of our Thanksgiving traditions, but we are still super disappointed that we didn't get to Idaho to see Lee's family. The only consolation is that we'll be there in just a few weeks for Christmas!

Utah was a winter wonderland and Thanksgiving day was C-O-L-D! I don't think it broke 10 degrees that day. But, we still bundled up for our annual Thanksgiving walk. We didn't go up the canyon like we normally do (snow was a little too deep), but we walked down in the gorgeous valley and nearly froze to death. We missed having my mom join us because she was sick in bed all day long. (It wasn't until Sunday that she was able to eat real food). The most memorable part of Thanksgiving may have been the turkey trauma that we experienced. The defrosting process for two of the turkeys caused floods in the laundry room and the same two turkeys ended up rotting in their brine before they made it into the oven. A third turkey also may have bit the dust somewhere along the line - (we never saw it surface). My dad came to the rescue with turkey #4. He went into town on Thanksgiving morning in search of a fresh turkey to bake. He came home with a 31 pounder that took HOURS and HOURS to bake -it barely even fit in the oven. So, needless to say dinner ran a little late that night. We sat down to eat at 10pm with only semi-warm food. Between the turkey hogging the oven for so long and the misfortune of the 30 year old microwave dying 45 minutes before dinner - it made warming the food a little difficult. Thank heavens Lee found a replacement by the time we needed warmed leftovers on Friday!

Friday & Saturday were lazy days full of football watching and game playing. We had fans representing Ohio State, Wisconsin, Oregon, Boise State, Stanford and Utah. Saturday Lee and I snuck out to the Logan temple before meeting the family at Logan Lanes for the annual bowling event. Lee and I both broke 100 this year (always an accomplishment) and even ended up with the same score. Bowling was followed by dinner at the Mandarin where we stuffed our bellies full of delicious Chinese.
We certainly enjoyed connecting with family that made the trip and loved being reminded that winter exists outside of California.
