Current State of Affairs & House Update

At the end of this month, we will have been residents of Fremont for four months. Four months would generally be ample time for someone to "move in" to their new house or apartment.  But, it's not nearly long enough for us.  And although we are optimistic that in 6 + weeks we'll have a functioning office, living room, guest room and "study", today we are still very much in a state of chaos.  I figured I should document this phase in our life so that we can look back on it and laugh once we FINALLY finish our immediate list of fixes.

So how do we live these days?  Our living room is actually in pretty good shape.  We call it our "sanctuary".  As soon as we get curtains hung I'll post a picture.  I've been waiting to have a more "finished product" before I post that one.  But, what's the rest of the house look like?State of the Family Room

Kitchen - We have bookshelves where a fridge would normally be.  Partially for food and dishes, partially for tools and painting supplies.  (got to have them handy at the sink!)  We also have blue tape everywhere to give as a feel for the cabinets we will be installing later this fall.

Family Room - Currently our "office", dining area AND storage.  All our beautiful bedroom furniture is under blankets until we get a Master Bedroom in oh, January or February of 2011.

The Supply Room Guest Room - It's been serving us well as our supply room.  Everything we need for the work around the house is there (well, if it's not on the bookshelves in the kitchen).

Future Nursery - Where we sleep.  Our mattress is on the floor and my suitcases are my dresser.  This makes it a bit tricky when going away for the weekend.  My belongings get dumped onto the floor until I return.

Master Bedroom - Our work room and hardwood floor storage area. The closet is also operational (minus the doors) and holds our hanging clothes.

Garage - Pretty darn full of furniture that will one day be in the bedrooms and "study".  Not to mention the fridge and 50% of our kitchen.  The first three months this garage was a disaster - trying to find ANYTHING was a feat.  So, while Lee spent a few nights hanging our hallway lights, I tackled the garage.   I have to admit, it looks pretty darn good!  My goal was to make enough space so that the junk in the dining room (when we moved in the garage was so full that everything from the storage unit ended up in the dining room) could be moved to the garage.  And I succeeded!  We even demolished the old workbench and slid in Lee's from the dining room.  The dining room is now empty and ready for work! Dining Room & Office -- Empty and under construction!  This last weekend we:

  • Sanded the office ceiling
  • Textured both the dining room and office ceilings
  • Removed the FULL wall bead board in both rooms (we were feeling lucky when the bead board came off with only a few glue causalities.  NO drywall work required!!!!)
  • Spackled the crap out of both rooms - both rooms looked like they had a bad case of the measles.  We've gone through WAY too much Spackle in this place.
  • Sanded the spackle and got the rooms READY FOR PRIMER!!!
