The Big Apple

After three modes of transit to SFO, three planes, four airports, ten hours of wait time and a cab, we arrived in NYC nine hours later than intended.  Our original plan was to fly through Dallas last Wednesday, May 25 and arrive at Newark airport by 9pm.  Unfortunately for us, our flight to Dallas was canceled.  Yet, we were one of the lucky ones who miraculously found a way to get to NYC by the following morning.  When everyone was telling us flights were booked out for 36 hours, a very helpful customer service agent found us a route to JFK by way of LAX and Vegas.  We arrived Thursday morning at 6am.

We immediately crashed at the hotel for a few hours and only got up because we had tickets to go out to Ellis Island.  This was Lee's first trip to the Big Apple and  we had planned to catch the ferry out to Ellis Island by way of Liberty Island.  I'm so glad the tickets weren't until 1pm.   The lines for the ferry were ridiculous, but we disembarked at Liberty Island and had close to an hour to walk around and appreciate Lady Liberty from the grounds.  (Tickets to go inside and to the crown sell out 6 months in advance - we weren't that prepared).  It's been 20 years since I was there last, and I appreciated her that much more this time around.   We spent longer on Ellis Island and really enjoyed that stop too. We learned a great deal about life on Ellis Island and the immigration process during the early 1900's.  We're really glad we made the effort to go out there.

Thursday night was our night on Broadway.  We saw Memphis, the musical that won best score and best musical in 2010.  It was fabulous.  It was followed by the best shake ever at the Shake Shack.  We would LOVE it if this chain ever made it out to San Francisco....

Central Park

Friday included sleep, a stroll through Central Park, a trip to the Top of the Rock observation deck and a stop at Louboutin's NY offices to visit my brother-in-law's sister before catching the train to New Jersey.  We're really glad we went to the Top of Rockefeller center for the views.  We heard they were better than the Empire State Building views - and I think I would agree with that assessment for three reasons:  1) no wait to the Top of the Rock, 2) you get to see the Empire State Building and 3) you also get amazing views of Central Park.

We're sorry our brief time in NYC was cut even shorter by the plane complications -  but we enjoyed what time we had there. Our early mini-anniversary celebration (it'll be three years in just one week 6/7) was fabulous.  AND when we left NYC the fun didn't end - we headed to New Jersey for all sorts of wedding festivities and family fun for the next four days.
