With our girls Just over two years ago our dear friends the Hardings left our neighborhood for Utah. It was a sad, sad day when they left. Fortunately we have had the opporutnity to visit them in Utah a couple of times a year. It's not nearly enough but it's better than nothing! This year for their vacation they decided to come to California for two weeks! We weren't lucky enough to have them stay with us that entire time, but they did spend several nights with us!
Abby and the Cockatoo
They rolled in on a Thursday evening and we both took that Friday off to do whatever they wanted! After a slow morning at home we loaded into the car and headed up to the city. The rain thwarted our initial plans but we adapted and decided to visit the Academy of Sciences. My favorite part of those visits is always the planetarium, but the girls loved the aquarium and the rain forest. We spent a few hours there before going out to a late lunch and then stopping at Smitten for some quality ice cream. At the nearby park the girls stopped to play on the structure and while we were there a very friendly man and his cockatoo let the animal lover (Abby) hold her. The bird waltzed right up Abby's arm and onto her shoulder. It was great!
Cookie making with Lee Saturday Mike and Christina had plans to meet up with some old friends and so Lee and I hung with the girls. Abby and I ran all sorts of errands while Lee and Ivy made dozens and dozens of cookies. It was so fun to be with those two. Ivy just adores Lee (I really have to share when she's around!) and Abby is so happy to be with me. It's the sweetest thing ever. Later that afternoon we hosted nearly 40 people (half kids/half adults) for a BBQ. We were fortunate the rain stopped just in time so we could spend the evening outside. I'm not sure how well our house would have handled 20 wild kids stuck inside! We loved seeing old friends and being able to host. Another weekend of enjoying the backyard!
Flowers from my girls The weekend the Hardings were with us was Mother's Day. They know that it's a hard day for me and much like they did a few years ago, they surprised me with beautiful flowers. They were angels sent to us during our most difficult time and we will love them forever. After spending the Sunday afternoon with us they left for Yosemite for a few days. The girls returned (no Mike) on Wednesday night and stayed two more evenings with us. We had to work so we didn't get to do anything fun, but we did enjoy our evenings with them. We loved catching up with Mike and Christina, getting quality time with Abby and Ivy and getting to know sweet Ruth.
We certainly miss them and are so grateful they were able to come out and visit! Pictures from their time with us are here.
